Malleability and Ductility

Aluminium extrusion is the technique used to transform aluminium alloy, pushed through, what can be intricate and complex dies, into definitive, cross-sectional profiles for a wide range of applications. The extrusion process makes the most of aluminium’s unique combination of physical characteristics, specifically malleability and ductility. Its ductility allows it to be easily extruded while its malleability allows it to be pressed and formed into complex shapes even after extrusion. Also at one third the density and stiffness of steel the resulting products offer exceptional strength and stability making it a popular choice for many designers.

Multipurpose

NIGALEX stock extrusion profiles are multipurpose in nature. They can be used in different sectors, such as maritime, aviation, construction
and automobile - body parts (left picture).

Features and Benefits :

  • Lightweight - Aluminium is about 1/3 the weight of iron, steel, copper or brass, making Aluminium extrusions easier to handle
  • Strong: Aluminium extrusions can be made as strong as needed for most applications
  • High in strength-to-weight material: Aluminium extrusions' unique combination of high strength and low weight
  • Resilient: Aluminium combines strength with flexibility, and can flex under loads or spring back from the shock of impact
  • Corrosion resistant: Aluminium extrusions offer excellent corrosion resistance.
  • Excellent thermal conductors: Based on weight and overall cost, Aluminium conducts heat and cold better than other common metals, making extrusion ideal for applications requiring heat exchangers or heat dissipation
  • Non-sparking: Because Aluminium is non-sparking, Aluminium extrusions are well suited for applications involving explosive materials or taking place in highly flammable environments
  • Noncombustible & Nontoxic: Aluminium does not burn and even at extremely high temperatures does not produce toxic fumes.
  • Easily tailored: While there are a variety of standard extrusion profiles available, the ability to design a profile to meet specific functional, aesthetic, and manufacturability objectives
  • Sustainable: Aluminium can be recycled infinitely with no degradation in properties, and Aluminium extrusions are often produced with high recycled content
